10 Soundtracks that are Perfect for Studying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Is it just me, or is studying so much easier when you have music in the background? Sometimes, you just have to really focus to work, so having your favourite band playing might be a distraction. Movie soundtracks are designed to get you to an emotion without being an interference, so they’re perfect for your cram session. Here are some of my favourite study soundtracks that help me ace those tests!

Pirates of the Caribbean, At World’s End

I always say that anything is possible with the Pirates soundtrack in the background! This movie is about overcoming obstacles and the importance of determination, so it’s music is perfect for when you need that extra push of motivation.

Jurassic Park

Let’s face it, Jurassic Park is a heart-racer. It keeps me excited even when I’m pulling an all-nighter, and when I’m excited, I’m paying attention.

Man of Steel

This is another movie that’s all about determination and overcoming the odds. Just like Superman, you can do whatever you believe you can, so make sure you do it right instead of taking what may be the easy route (so keep reading that textbook)! Channel your inner Superman with this playlist!

Inception

In a race against time, the characters in Inception have to overcome mental obstacles to achieve their goals, just like you when you’re cramming! The music reflects the curiosity and intelligence of the movie itself, so it’s great for when you’re going over material that you may not understand as well.

Batman Begins

This soundtrack is a bit grittier than the others, but just as beautiful. If you’re really dreading your tests and essays but need a push to get you through, this soundtrack may do the trick.

Sherlock: Season One

Okay, not really a movie, but the shows are long enough to count, right? The first season of Sherlock is just as exciting as it is intelligent, which makes for the perfect studying music.

Spectre

Really, all of the James Bond and Kingsman soundtracks are gold for studying, but many of them have been removed from YouTube. Spectre has the classic excitement and the availability to boot!

The Last Samurai

There’s something of a finality to all of the music. Whether you’re finishing a big essay or the end of your university career, this soundtrack should keep you calm and determined.

The Road to El Dorado

If you haven’t seen this movie, I’d highly recommend it, especially for its strong, liberated female lead (after you’re finished studying, of course). It’s fun and energetic, not to mention that this movie is wonderful for creativity. Go on a journey into the land of gold with this playlist, your grades are worth their weight in it anyway!

Harry Potter

Study like Hermione to this compilation of scores from across the eight movies, because I couldn’t pick just one. Bring a little magic into your cramming session and remember that, no matter what happens, there are more important things than books and cleverness – like friendship and bravery.
