Tech to Look Out For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Last week Boston hosted a GetGeeked event which displayed some of the future technologies that will make everyday life easier. Two of the products we saw there really stood out to us as something college students living in Boston would likely take advantage of, so we thought we’d share them with you!

The first is Getaround. It’s a car borrowing service similar to Zipcar, except you don’t pay a membership fee, and the car doesn’t belong to the company, it belongs to someone who lives in the city. The company was launched in San Francisco and recently just came to Boston, so users are growing constantly! All cars are insured by Getaround and as long as you have a valid driver’s license, you’re all set to start borrowing!

The second tech piece was from InvisaWear Technology who are making wearable tech pieces that allow you to alert police if you’re in danger. “You can’t pause the situation and look for your phone in a backpack full of stuff” said founder Ray. InvisaWear will be available as a keychain, a necklace, bracelet, and more. They will be launching their Kickstarter campaign in the near future, so keep an eye out for this extremely wearable piece that will also keep you safe!

Tech is changing our lives for the better everyday, and going to events liked GetGeeked Boston is a great way to get familiar with emerging tech companies. We highly recommend checking one out if you get the chance!
