Class Year: 2021

Hometown: Bainbridge Island, WA (just outside of Seattle)

Majors: Double major in Global Islamic Studies and International Relations with a minor in Arabic

Extracurricular Activities: Her Campus, Club Soccer, Outdoors Club, Caribbean Student Association, Students Organized Against Racism

Favorite Place on Campus: The Walk-in Coffee Closet in Ruane’s Den. Each week, I do my toughest assignment here while drinking Chai lattes and eating pastries. It makes the tough work so much easier, knowing I have a nice environment with good food where I can get it done.

What is the most interesting food you’ve ever eaten? Once when I was a kid, I picked a baby jellyfish up out of the ocean and ate it. I also ate a fair amount of dirt, rocks, and cat food as a toddler. I think that stuff would have to be at the top of my list…

Favorite Hobby: Traveling, without question! I took a gap year last year and lived in India, Guatemala and Costa Rica while teaching and doing other volunteer work. I also lived in Spain as a kid, which was an incredible experience. I’m actually not used to staying in one place for long, so four years at college is a bit daunting. However, I love Conn so I’m not really worried, and I’ve already planned trips to eight countries in the next year during school breaks, so that should keep me pretty busy!

What would your dream job be? I would love to do some sort of social justice work (or maybe teach) in the Middle East or South Asia. If I get into the Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts (CISLA), I’m hoping to spend my internship working with Syrian refugees in Spain. That would definitely be a dream job for me!
