Be the Better Person

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DESU chapter.

Be the Better Person

Do you have a person in your life who is just toxic? Someone who can change your entire mood, give you an instant migraine, or just put a damper on your entire day? Whether it is a roommate, classmate, coworker, friend, or even a family member, we have all had a time when we have had to deal with a difficult individual. It is tough. Sometimes it is hard to stay up when someone’s negative energy is constantly taking a toll on you. Be the better person. This is easier said than done, I know, but attempt to be a consistent factor in someone’s life.

We have all had days where we are smiling on the outside but on the inside we are breaking down. This proves that you never can completely understand what someone is going through. Reflect on times when you have been hurt or upset and have not been able to show it. Some people are not as strong. We tend to hide the parts of us that are weak or that make us feel insecure and some people lash out when all they need is love and a good friend.

People may not remember what you said or did but they will always remember how you made them feel. Reflect on negativity with positivity and always be kind.  A simple compliment or a quick “hey girl, have a great week!” text can truly make someone’s entire day. Lead by example. Smile. Be a light and continue to shine on other people. “To the world you may just be one person, but to one person, you may be the world.”
