How To Keep Warm, But Still Look Chic In Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

For those of you in Columbus, you know the past week was way too cold. But just because it’s freezing outside doesn’t mean we can’t look as cute and chic as we did during the warmer months. We just have to think a little bit more creatively when getting dressed in the morning. Here are some tips and tricks for winter fashion.

Wear your leggings under wide-leg pants

Nothing does a better job at keeping your legs warm than wearing leggings under pants. However, wearing two layer of pants at the same time might be unflattering. The best way to solve this problem is wearing wide-leg pants instead of other types of pants (like skinny jeans). Wide-leg pants are almost always flattering as well.

Match the colors

When it’s really cold out, it’s the perfect time to become a master at layering. It’s trendy to wear layers of clothes in different shades of the same color. The match of the colors keep the look clean, as long as the pieces are varying shades.

In this photo, most my clothes are blue (but in different shades).

Boots, Boots, Boots

Boots take the stage during winter. Thigh-high boots can make your legs look longer and thinner. Pair them with a short dress to show them off. Ankle boots and Chelsea boots are also great choices. You can rock them with skinny jeans or midi skirts.

This is my favorite pair of boots from Public Desire.

Look chic, but stay warm with oversized outerwear

Oversized clothes have been a trend for several years and oversized outerwear is definitely a smart choice for winter. You can wear as many clothes as you want underneath while still looking fabulous. But avoid wearing wide-leg pants and oversized outerwear at the same time—you need to balance your look.

This is how I wore an oversized bomber jacket and balanced my look with skinny jeans.

Anyway, I’m already counting down to the summer months. Good luck ladies!
