Favorite Cheap Wines

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

If you’re 21, then I suggest you continue reading.

This article is about that delicious, fermented grape concoction we call wine. I love wine, and I try my best not to discriminate against the many varieties, but I much prefer buying bottles that don’t break my wallet. Now, when I say cheap wine, most people think of nasty-tasting stuff that’s $3 a bottle, but sometimes cheaper wine tastes better than $120 bottles – even the $3 bottles.

Here are some of my favorite wines that are under $20 and still very yummy [yes, I just said yummy].

*All of these prices are based off of my exploration of Total Wine.

Barefoot

750 ml: $3.97

1.5L: $7.97

Not only is Barefoot a must, but no matter the size or flavor, they will all be under $10. And whether you’re a fan of sweet or dry wines, Barefoot has both, plus refreshers and mini wine bottles for when you you don’t feel like lugging around a whole bottle!

Arbor Mist

250 ml: $1.79

1.5L: $5.47

Arbor Mist is perfect for those who want wine but have a budget to keep. The Arbor Mist magnums last a while and the regular bottles are perfect for a night in, and while Arbor Mist may not be my first choice, their flavors are definitely at the top of my list.

Sweet Bitch

750 ml: $6.99-$7.99

750 ml bubbly: $10.99

This is my baby, my new-found love. I’ve only had the Moscato Rose, because that’s obviously the best one, but I’m willing to bet that the other types are equally as amazing. If you like a perfect mix of about 60 percent sweet to 40 percent dry, then this is for you. Sweet Bitch is a little more expensive, but girl, it is so worth it.

Franzia

3L Box: $7.99 – $9.99

5L Box: $9.99 – $13.49

Franzia is probably my favorite boxed wine; it’s delicious. It’s definitely the most expensive out of the four, but you get your money’s worth. Franzia has everything from red sangria to cabernet.

When shopping around for a delicious wine, you don’t need to buy the $50 bottle. There are many options that still taste great for a fraction of the cost. Happy shopping!

I love exploring the outdoors, writing, whales, and have a major sweet tooth for cheesecake! Volleyball and hockey are my favorite sports to play and watch. When it comes to writing, I love it. I truly enjoy being able to write articles and stories about topics people would enjoy reading.
