The NRA Used a Leslie Knope GIF In a Tweet and People Aren’t Happy

At 9:58 CST on February 21, 2018, the NRA used a Leslie Knope gif to tweet their support of spokesperson Dana Loesch’s remarks at a CNN Town Hall in Florida.

The town hall was held in wake of the recent mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed and 14 were injured after a 19-year-old opened fire on students and teachers with an assault rifle.

The NRA’s tweet sparked a strong reaction from Parks and Rec fans and even people who worked on the show.

Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson in the hit TV show, wasn’t too pleased…

…and neither was Adam Scott, who played Leslie’s husband Ben Wyatt in the show.

The show’s creator, Micheal Shur (whose twitter handle is @KenTremendous), was also not happy.

People are outraged that the NRA would misrepresent a character like Leslie Knope, who would be fighting against the NRA, as a way to advance their anti-gun control views.

Maybe the NRA will think twice about trying to be “cool” by using gifs next time, but let’s be honest– probably not.
