5 Ways to be the Girl You Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

Heartbreaks, friendships, and sometimes even life can bring us down. Although you may be surrounded by friends, sometimes all you need is alone time with yourself. Your friends aren’t always going to be the therapy that you need to get you through stressful times, and that’s okay! There are times when all you really need is to be alone. However, for some people, this can be weird and scary.  Here’s some awesome ways to be the girl you need!

  1. Relax

Spending time by yourself is a great way to relax and put all of your stresses behind you. My favorite way to do this is with a personal spa night! Grab your favorite bath bomb, light some candles, and turn on some Netflix while you take a hot bath. Sometimes you just need to unwind and think about nothing but if Ross and Rachel really were on a break.

  1. Read a book

This is another great way to be by yourself and not think about life. Instead, submerge yourself in a whole other world and get lost in a really good book. If you need a good read, head over to this site!

  1. Cook yourself a great meal

With the stress and responsibilities that comes with being a college student, it can be super easy to eat crappy meals—hello pop tarts for dinner! Whenever I feel like I’ve had a bad week, I try to cook something really good and completely homemade. I find that this makes me feel a bit more in control of my life and surroundings. So, find your favorite meal and give it a go!

  1. Keep a journal

Sometimes it can be really hard to find the right person to vent to about certain subjects. Even more, it’s hard to get your words out when you’re speaking directly to someone, even if it has nothing to do with them. Whenever I feel like I can’t really talk about something with anyone, I always turn to journaling. This is a great way to vent without feeling awkward or planning out exactly what to say. It’s raw, true, and extremely therapeutic.

  1. Dance!

Sometimes the best thing you can do is dance to that guilty pleasure song of yours and feel like a fool when no one is watching. Not much of a dancer? Who cares!!! Exhaust yourself by dancing out your stress.

Don’t be afraid to spend some time alone. We all love our friends and family, but being by ourselves can sometimes be exactly what we need.  Love yourself and be the girl you need!
