Dallas’s Edible Cookie Dough Restaurant: The Dough Dough

My favorite part of baking cookies (besides eating the actual cookie afterwards) is getting to lick the leftover cookie dough off the spoon and bowl. Growing up, my mom was always very careful to only let me eat a small amount of the dough. She insisted that if I ate too much, I would be sick from the raw ingredients in the dough. But has anyone ever actually gotten sick from eating raw cookie dough? Or is that just something my parents told me to stop me from living my best life? Well, thanks to Dallas’s newest edible cookie dough restaurant, The Dough Dough, the only problem I have to worry about is a sugar rush.

The Dough Dough features 10 cookie flavors, all made with pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour that makes the treat 100 percent safe to eat! Some highlighted flavors include sugar cookie, cookies ‘n cream, brownie batter and of course, classic chocolate chip. You can customize your sweet treat by creating your own fancy flavor, or add a cone for good measure. The dough doesn’t cost much dough either (get it?). A single scoop costs just $4.

After hearing all the hype, I had to try it for myself. I drove to the quaint shop on Forest Lane armed with my strong appetite and a craving for cookies. The shop resembles an ice-cream parlor, with large tubs of flavored dough instead of ice-cream and a smiling employee scooping the dough into small cups. I took a savory glance at all the flavors. Snickerdoodle. Nutella. Peanut butter. How was I going to decide? I sampled a few flavors and eventually settled for the classic and original cookie dough flavor (although I heavily considered an M&M covered flavor called the junkyard).

The verdict? Well, it tastes like cookie dough! Rich and flavorful, you would never know it wasn’t the real deal. A fair warning: this treat is extremely sweet. It was too sweet for even my refined sugary palette to handle. I took a few bites of the delicious dough and that was enough for me to call it quits. I remember I was disappointed at the small size of the scoops, but I soon realized this was tactical, as a bigger scoop would have overwhelmed my taste buds. Still, I left the Dough Dough with my craving for a sweet treat satisfied and my appetite satiated.

Overall, The Dough Dough is a charming shop with delicious treats that offers a fun alternative to more traditional deserts like ice-cream. I look forward to returning to the shop to try all the different flavors.
