Don’t Let Spring Semester Get You Down

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

Spring semester is definitely longer, and for many holds more activities while campus organizations close out the year with their big events and formals, and the midterms seem endless while outside if arguable much more appealing with the sun and a light breeze. Graduation is around the corner for seniors, and the impending summer internships that everyone has so hastily been waiting for are almost here. It’s time for a real break from school, and not just the quick winter break for holidays where you get a taste of what not having an unfortunate amount of work to do might be like, but a real break from school. Whether you’re taking classes, starting a new job, starting an internship, or going home you’ll get the change of scenery you’ve been waiting for for the past couple of weeks.

Spring semester is getting the best of people, and as the year winds down relationships start to crumble or grow as the intensity of this end comes completely to the surface. Some of the people that you used to see every day; whether that was in clases, in your building, or in clubs, you may never see again as you move out of the dorms and inbark on a brand new kind of independence still different from the independence you have learnt thus far.

Sure, the pressures of this spring semester may cause you to crack as the expectations and the work that goes into getting the grades you want or getting closer to declaring smacks you in the face. And yes, you’re going to make mistakes outside of the classroom as well, so there will be stressful circumstances in all areas of life. But, everyone is a little unsure right now, and we’re all trying our best and trying to learn with the training wheels off.

This spring semester should not scare us in regards to the rest of our time at college, instead it should make us feel more prepared. We are learning, and we are getting stronger, and every day we are preparing ourselves more aptly for the real world. Yes, the closer it gets the more the fear of being an adult sinks in. But, we’re not quite adults yet and we still have time to make mistakes and learn from them and become bigger and better people. Just because this year has come to a close, that does not mean we are solidified into the people we are today. The person you are doesn’t have to be decided today, and your grades don’t need to be perfect. Instead you just need to learn from whatever happens this semester and carry that growth with you on to the next step. After all, all we can do is hope to become something that would make our past selves proud, and if you’re not proud of yourself yet then there is still time.

UC Berkeley class of 2021. My heart is in the mountains, and with any corgi I see. I'm interested in writing, yoga, running, hiking, boxing, playing piano, music, adventures, and studying psychology and anthropology.

As a senior undergraduate, I seek out all opportunities that expand my horizons, with the aim of developing professionally and deepening my vision of how I can positively impact the world around me. While most of my career aims revolve around healthcare and medicine, I enjoy producing content that is informative, engaging, and motivating.  In the past few years, I have immersed myself in the health field through working at a private surgical clinic, refining my skills as a research assistant in both wet-lab and clinical settings, shadowing surgeons in a hospital abroad, serving different communities with health-oriented nonprofits, and currently, exploring the pharmaceutical industry through an internship in clinical operations.  Career goals aside, I place my whole mind and soul in everything that I pursue whether that be interacting with patients in hospice, consistently improving in fitness PR’s, tutoring children in piano, or engaging my creativity through the arts. Given all the individuals that I have yet to learn from and all the opportunities that I have yet to encounter in this journey, I recognize that I have much room and capacity for growth. Her Campus is a platform that challenges me to consistently engage with my community and to simultaneously cultivate self-expression.
