Camp Catchphrases

“The stars at night are big and bright, *clap* *clap* deep in the heart of Texas!”

 

This is just one of the few chants I learned when I moved to Texas for 3 months to work at a summer camp. At camp, we played a camp-wide game of catchphrases. Whenever someone was speaking on the microphone and managed to say a specific word that was identified as a catchphrase, everyone else would catch the specific word by responding with the identified catchphrase unique to that specific word. This summer-long game of catchphrases easily became one of my favorite parts of summer. Although camp ended over a month ago, I can’t help but catch certain words that I hear in everyday conversation. I thought I would share some of my favorite catch phrases that I learned over the summer.

 

Regular words that can be caught as catchphrases:

1. So—“sooooo, I need to pull the thread!”

2. Awesome—”awesome, awesome! Hit ‘em in the head with a big fat opossum. Ooosh ahh ahh. Ooosh ooosh ahh ahh” *clap* *clap*

3. Alright—“ I’m alright… don’t gotta worry ‘bout me! Huh!”

4. Amazing—“ahhhmazingggg!!”

5. Bye—“Bye… bye, bye, bye”

Camp name catchphrases:

6. Creekside—“Creekside, strong side! Huh!”

7. Lakeview—“Lakeview! It’s a great view!”

8. The Wild—“The Wild! Lions and tigers and bears! Oh MY!”

Numbers: whenever a number is referenced when someone is on the mic, we catch the number and proceed to count to the stated number. However, we don’t catch numbers that are 3 digits or longer.

9. 12—“12! Let’s count it! 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12, ooosh ahh ahh ahh ahh, boogitty boogitty. yahh *clap* yahh *clap* yahh *clap* yahh *clap* *clap*

 

I’m sure you’ve quickly picked up on quite a few of the catchphrases I learned this summer, hopefully, they don’t remain stuck in your head like they’ve done to me. Signing off for now, Bye! – bye. bye bye bye!
