Netflix’s Top Feel-Good Show Binges for When You Just Cannot Anymore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

With syllabus week behind us, the semester is going to pick up quickly whether we’re ready or not. I, like many of you, do my best to stay on top of assignments while balancing work and friends, but, on occasion, it can all get a little too overwhelming. Something I like to do in order to preserve my sanity is to take a night off of studying (because let’s be real— I wasn’t going to accomplish much anyway) and watch some light-hearted Netflix selections. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some great feel-good shows available on Netflix.

1. New Girl

New Girl follows the story of post-breakup Jess who moves in with three single men. Together, they navigate life and form a dysfunctional sort of family. You will laugh and think that everything Jess does is totally relatable.

2. Big Bang Theory

Sheldon, an awkward genius, and his equally quirky friends are a loveable group that will make you laugh and cringe and smile throughout the entire series. My favorite part of this show is that you can watch any random episode without having seen the other ones for it to be funny.

3. The Great British Baking Show

First of all, who doesn’t love a British accent? Second, who doesn’t love baked goods? If you fall into either of the very small groups that don’t like either of those things, this show probably isn’t for you.  Personally, I get very involved in rooting for my favorite contestants throughout the competitions. The talent is astounding, and the contestants are endearing— the show is overall very happy.

4. Parks and Recreation

Featuring several awesome female characters and a crazy office dynamic, Parks and Recreation makes me laugh so hard I cry.  Although it is comparable to The Office, I find this humor much more accessible, especially after a difficult day.

The semester is going to speed up before we know it.  Just remember that it’s okay to take a night off to lay in bed with your sweatpants and watch Netflix. Work hard and happy viewing!
