*Peep a frappe that exploded on me.*
Whether or not the word ‘scoopie’ is a verified term, I worked as one for past three years. If you’re not familiar with the term, it means I worked in an ice cream shop. I served, you guessed it, ice cream.
Ice cream is my absolute favorite dessert. It’s the perfect job for a college kid home for summer. But, do you know the secret ins and outs of your local ice cream shop? Do you know what to order, or do you get up to the window without looking at the menu every time? I’ll let you in on the inside scoop for what you should know when ordering your favorite creamy delicacy.
1. Look at the ice cream list before you get to the window. Although, there are definitely some favors you’ll have to ask about before committing to them, because the name is something like “Maine Moose” and doesn’t describe the flavor at all.
2. You can ask to try flavors, but don’t go overboard. We want to make sure you actually like the ice cream you’re eating, but don’t ask to try every flavor we offer.
3. If you want the best ice cream there, ask the scoopie what their favorite ice cream is. Trust me, they have probably tried every ice cream there is.
4. Frappe is pronounced “Frap”, not “Frap-ee”. This isn’t McDonalds.
5. Don’t complain when it’s taking more than a minute to be handed your frappe. We make each one to order and they’re pretty difficult to make. Look at picture above. Our fingers freeze while the ice cream slowly mixes, and there may be a line of five frappes we have to make as soon as this one’s done. It may take a couple minutes to get out the window, but it will be worth the wait.
6. Listen for where the scoopie tells you your ice cream will come out. We tell you so you’re not confused. If there’s a lot of people there, make sure the scoopie is saying exactly what you ordered. We don’t want to have to waste an ice cream if you touch something that isn’t yours!
Overall, the scoopie life is fun. We love getting to serve the best dessert to people. Over the years, I’ve eaten a little too much ice cream, but I’ll never be sick of it. With that said, make sure to get ice cream as much as possible during the summer, because it’s just not as good during the winter!
