8 Reasons Why Your Sister Is Your Best Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

She’s the person you’re glued to at family gatherings.

My sister is literally my lifeline at family reunions/gatherings. She’s the person I talk to the entire time, and she’s always there to jump in and change the subject when people ask personal questions.

You “share” clothes.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve raided my sisters closet for clothes. Sometimes I even take them with me to college (without her knowing, of course). To be fair she also steals my clothes pretty often.

The age difference is NEVER a problem.

Even though we’re a few years apart, we still get along like a house on fire. Sometimes are pop culture likes clash a little bit, but otherwise we just love hanging out with each other.

You’re HONEST with each other.

I know I never have to lie to my sister about anything. She gives the most honest advice out of anyone I know. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it’s best to hear it from your sister than from anyone else.

You have embarrassing nicknames for each other.

My sister literally HATES when I use her nickname for her in public. Sometimes I forget how weird it is, especially when you have to explain the meaning behind it to everyone who hears it. In fact, I made my sister a canvas for her dorm and it has her nickname on it, and all of her roommates have asked her about it. She’s definitely not thrilled about having to tell that story over and over again.

One minute you’re fighting, the next you‘re laughing with each other.

I don’t know how many times my mom has broken up a “fight” between me and my sister. Each time we claim we’re just having fun.

She’s the person you binge watch TV shows with.

At one point my sister and I binge watched Gilmore Girls every single summer. It got to the point where we would just watch it over and over throughout the entire year.

You’re glad she’s stuck with you for life (at least most of the time).

At the end of the day, I’m always going to be rooting for my sister to be the best she can be and I’m so glad I get to watch her navigate her way through life.
