If you are a fan of the movie Titanic, now you might get the opportunity to be just like Jack & Rose (hopefully without the shipwreck).

Clive Palmer, an Australian businessman, wants to make Titanic II because “At a time when the world is in conflict, the Titanic represents Jack and Rose, Romeo and Juliet. We know how to make war; we have to make peace”. This is a really symbolic and romantic reason to want to rebuild the infamous ship and almost makes me want to go on it…. almost.

In a statement, Palmer said that the Blue Star Line (which coincidentally sounds an awful lot like the White Star Line that was in charge of the original Titanic) will create “an authentic Titanic experience, providing passengers with a ship that has the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods, and 21st century technology“. He also said that the ship plans to retrace the original route, recreate the original floor plan, and bring the exact same number of passengers and crew. If you are starting to get a bad feeling about this, don’t worry, it’s not like the director of the project is named “Men Sink” or anything like that. Oh wait, the director is named Clive Mensink. This is such a great idea…..?

If the concept of reviving the doomed Titanic sounds familiar, it’s because Palmer has discussed this idea before. He first announced the Titanic II in 2012 and it was meant to set sail in 2016. Then in 2014, he extended the deadline to 2018. Now, he is moving the launch date for the ship to be moved to 2022. If the plan isn’t delayed again, Titanic II will be launched exactly 110 years after the original Titanic. Palmer believes that “In 1912 the Titanic was the ship of dreams. Millions have dreamt of sailing on her, seeing her in port and experiencing her unique majesty. Titanic II will be the ship where those dreams come true”.

Now, I am definitely not one of the “millions” so I am not sure if I would go on it. I am going to wait until the plans are finalized to make my decision, I mean, after all, the directors last name is “Mensink”.
