Your vote matters! I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but why?

Most college-aged students choose not to vote especially during the midterms. I get it – we have lots to do. But here are 5 reasons why you should decide to vote on Tuesday:

1. First, the common misconception that voting doesn’t matter is not true! Especially in this election, many polls show extremely close races, meaning a few votes will decide the election. Hence, your vote could be one that decides!

2. During midterm season, a lot of the positions you will vote for are local (state representatives, school board members, etc.). So these are the positions that are most likely to affect your day-to-day life.

3. If you don’t vote, older generations decide your future. Older people are much more likely to vote, which means that what they choose will impact you. You should be helping decide your future!

4. Many people fought for you to have the right to vote. Unless you are a white, property-owning male, you didn’t always have the right to vote in this country, so take advantage of it! Many people around the world would love to be in your position, so don’t turn down the opportunity.

5. Even if you aren’t interested in politics, it affects all sorts of issues (probably even some you care about). Who you vote for can alter environmental, educational, or even foreign policy; voting means something for everyone.
