In the end of the Halloween month, Netflix launched its new thriller-inspired series, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The plot is about a teenage witch, who carries her name in the title, that has to decide between a normal human life, with her boyfriend and friends in high school, or to pursue her family’s witch legacy in the dark path. The series walks alongside with Netflix’s bet on teenager movies and series, but on a different genre: horror.
We are already in love and curious for the second season. So here are six reasons why you should give Sabrina’s world a try!
1. If you watched 1990’s Sabrina

Besides The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s comic book, the new Netflix series is also inspired on the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, a TV series launched in 1996, which gave Melissa Joan Hart a special place in teenagers’ heart. Although the reboot presents a different aesthetic and doesn’t carries as much comedy as the 1990’s one, you will probably enjoy the series and to be around the characters you used to love, such as Salem and her aunties!
2. Diversity and friendship matters

The reboot gave a special attention for current social themes and tries to bring as much diversity as it can along with the need to talk about important subjects, such as bullying, sexuality and women empowerment. It is nice to see those discussions through Sabrina and her best friends, Susie and Rosalind “Roz”, fighting against oppression inside their own school and showing that we don’t need to be silenced by anyone.
3. The strong female cast and feminism

Although it is not the main topic, it is impossible not to observe Sabrina’s strength on facing the Dark Lord himself and all the references to women’s struggle in our society. At Baxter High or the Night’s Church (which the witches are part of) Sabrina series’ shows that patriarchy has to be defeated and is amazing to watch a powerful female cast joining together to fight against it.
4. Netflix’s new bet in horror genre

As we said before, this new Sabrina’s series comes with a whole new aesthetic and it is creepy… in a good way. If you enjoy thriller stories and classic horror movies, you will love The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina that trades naivety for terror and occultism, with a lot of dark rituals and blood. Sabrina’s producers also dared in playing with satanic religions – “Praise Satan!” – and episodes inspired in successful horror movies, such as The Exorcist.
5. Critics are amazed by Sabrina

If you are still in doubt after all the reasons listed before, here comes a proof that Sabrina is attracting lots of admirers everywhere: the series already has great critics all over the place. It has conquered a great score in Metacritic, with a 74 Metascore, and in RottenTomatoes, with over 90% of positive appreciation from the Website’s critics. Not to mention all good critics about Kiernan Shipka in the lead role.
6. If you are a Riverdale fan

Besides being part of the same Archie Comics universe and taken place neighbor towns (the rumours about a crossover are shaking the internet), Sabrina has Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as the same main creator. The crossover was not confirmed, however the production promises a lot of similarities between the stories’ horror aesthetics.
