Looking Forward to Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DESU chapter.

It’s almost Thanksgiving Break!  As college students we are always looking forward to our breaks, especially ones where we get to go back home.  Therefore, I have a created a list of things to look forward to for Thanksgiving Break:

  1. Macy’s Day Parade

Not only is this parade exciting, but they have added new floats to the parade this year.  Whether you are going to New York City to watch this spectacular parade or on tv, it is always a fun tradition to enjoy the new elements brought each year.  It brings families together, children to watch as parents are cooking up a storm in the kitchen for a Thanksgiving meal.

  1. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

This special is always playing on Thanksgiving and has been a tradition around since the ages.  Fun to watch with the family and a great message throughout the cartoon about coming together and being thankful.

  1. Spending time with family and friends

This is a holiday, along with Christmas, where we get to be home with our families and friends again.  To talk about life away from college and a summary about what has happened during the year. To be with the ones you love and be eating a home-cooked meal.

  1. FOOD!

Everyone loves food, especially the Thanksgiving meal, from the turkey and cranberries to the pumpkin pie and peach cobbler.  It is a great meal to come home to and just to be around the smell of it is so tempting. Nothing like the campus meals we receive as students at the dining halls.  Just a little treat during this holiday of Thankfulness and many more.

  1. Being home

Just the fact of being home is just awesome!  To be back in your own bed, house, and with no roommates or noisy neighbors hits the spot.  I mean just being in my sheets in my bed is good enough for me and being able to turn on the tv and watch whatever I want.  Along with going in my cabinets and having all of my favorites already there, plus an actual kitchen to cook in!

  1. Family traditions

We have to talk family traditions cause everyone has their own and many are different.  Traditions help keep us together and go from generation to generation. Whether it is helping cook in the kitchen, decorating the house, or going around the table saying what you are thankful for.  It brings families and friends together on a delicious holiday, who doesn’t love that?

  1. Free laundry services

Have I not mentioned we get free laundry when we go home?  No paying the college extra money just to wash our clothes and you can leave it there without having to keep an eye on it.  It’s just one of the little things that makes coming home for the holidays as a college student sweeter.

  1. Leftovers

Who doesn’t love leftovers, especially on Thanksgiving?  Where you can make a whole bunch of goodness and take it home with you or back to college.  Food that can last you awhile and give you that feeling of home, when returning back to the dorms.

  1. The coming of winter break

Right after Thanksgiving comes Christmas break which is way longer and a getaway from college.  The traditions continue one holiday to the next and it’s fantastic for those who can’t wait for a breather from the college life.  Plus you get to bake for an entire month, give to others, shop, decorate, and many more!

  1. Relaxing and Getting Ahead

Thanksgiving break is a temporary breather that is greatly needed.  It is about a week to catch up on assignments, start studying for finals, and just a time to relax.  Enjoy being with family, plus getting help on assignments if needed, and not being at that hardworking and stressful life.  Plus a breather before the stress and long hours of finals.
