To My Far Away Friend on Your Birthday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTM chapter.

Hey,

I want to start off with wishing you a very happy birthday. I want to follow up with saying how sorry I am that I can’t be there to celebrate with you. I know we both live busy lives at school, but I wanted to take the time to celebrate your day with you from 1,000 miles away. Here are 5 things I want you to know on your birthday.

I want you to know how proud I am of you. Like everyone you’ve had your rough patches, but look at you now. You’re doing great at a school you actually like and you’re studying something that you love and you’re killing it. You don’t let bad days get in your way and you really will do great things.

I want you to know how funny you are. You can make me laugh no matter how I’m feeling. Even though you don’t always think you’re that funny, your personality and sarcastic comments can make anyone laugh. You can brighten up someone’s day with a simple conversation, and that’s one of the things I love about you.

I want you to know how beautiful you are. Seriously, I don’t know many people as pretty as you. You’re definitely the pretty friend, and I don’t mind at all. You can’t always see yourself the way the rest of us do, so please remember that you’re perfect.

I want you to know how much I miss you. I talk about my best friend from home ALL the time. I think my friends here know more about you than they do about me. Summers and holiday breaks aren’t enough time to spend with my best friend, and they never will be. I miss you all the time and I can’t wait to see you.

I want you to know how lucky your friends are. You’re the kind of friend to answer your phone no matter the time or the circumstance. You’ll be there with your friends through it all, even if you don’t always know what to say to make it better. You forgive mistakes and give second chances. You’re the friend everyone needs, but only the lucky have.

Happy birthday best friend. I hope it can be as amazing as you are.

I am a pre-vet major who loves to laugh (especially at myself), drink coffee, and spend time with my dog, Cora. I moved from Massachusetts to Tennessee to attend college at UTM and compete for their division 1 rifle team.
