I love Disney movies.  They make me happy.  However, while watching Disney Pixar’s movie Inside Out, I learned some pretty important lessons about my own emotions.  One that stood out to me was the movie’s lesson about Anger.

Because it’s Disney, emotions are depicted through very cute animated characters.  Each character has very stereotypical behaviors that go along with its corresponding emotion.  With Anger that meant a lot of yelling.

But that’s what makes each emotion so relatable.  They perfectly encapsulate what runs through our minds when these emotions overcome us.  When it comes to anger I definitely feel like my head is about to burst into flames.  This is why I usually try to push this emotion to the side.  I try to hide my anger.

The main plot of Inside Out is driven by what happens when we try to hide the emotions we don’t like as much and pretend to be happy.  As a result of this, Joy and Sadness were lost while Anger, Fear, and Disgust were stuck in control causing the appearance of being okay.  In reality, things were not okay and it was only a matter of time before things got worse.

Instead of burying our anger inside of us until it takes over and causes us to explode, we should allow our anger to run its course.  If we let ourselves feel emotions that scare us, we are going to be able to stay in control of our own behaviors.  Anger is a natural feeling and sometimes it’s necessary to let yourself truly feel its effects before we are able to move on.

There are so many more lessons we can take from Inside Out.  While this movie was made for children, I believe people of all ages can enjoy and learn from its message.  If you haven’t seen it yet go watch it on Netflix now!
