If you are a fan of Ryan Murphy’s semi long-running anthology series American Horror Story, then you know that the eighth season recently came to an end last week. Naturally, I have some opinions about it. I think this is pretty clear, but there will be SPOILERS ahead.

When I first heard the news about this season revolving around the end of the world, I was excited. I can say that I am fairly worried about the state of the world right now, and I was eagerly anticipating watching a scenario of what would go down if the antichrist chose to spur it on. If you were like me in this assumption, you must have been terribly disappointed to realize that only the first couple episodes dealt with that situation and even then, all of the scenes took place within a safe outpost. We see no ravenous, mutated humans or plagues of any sort throughout the whole season. We get a few shots of a red-tinted sky and one scene where Billy Eichner interacts with some deformed survivors.

Otherwise, this season was created solely for fan service. Specifically, for those fans who loved the third season, American Horror Story: Coven. All of the characters from this season make reappearances, which is all good fun, but I would have liked to know that going into the season.Expecting the end of the world chaos and receiving a bunch of witches and warlocks fighting instead is not the most disappointing thing in the world, but it certainly brought me zero satisfaction.

My favorite thing about the whole season, (and if Tumblr is any indication) and I am sure many other people would agree, was Cody Fern playing the antichrist. Also known as Michael Langdon, there is really no way to explain his wicked good looks other than staring at endless pictures of him. His acting made the antichrist one of the most well-written and sympathetic characters on the show to date, and this show has many a sympathetic character to brag about.

All I am saying is that if Ryan Murphy chooses not to cast him in the next season, maybe as a fan favorite who does not get hit by a car, of all things, in the last episode, then he would be making a huge mistake.

If you have watched the season, maybe you will agree with me about its lackluster qualities, or maybe you absolutely loved it, and all the more power to you. I can be a very picky person when it comes to shows that I love, especially when that show started on the extreme high note that is American Horror Story: Murder House, Season One.

If you do want to watch the season now, FX is having an offer that allows you to binge all ten episodes for free. If you are way too busy worrying about finals right now, it will eventually go to Netflix.
