Tomi Lahren has reached an all time low in my opinion. I am always appalled by what she has to say about politics, however, her tweet on November 26th is insensitive and immature. She tweeted at 12:45 AM, “Bum-rushing the border is a CHOICE and has consequences. Watching the USA FINALLY defend our borders was the HIGHLIGHT of my Thanksgiving weekend.” This refers to the people who were tear gassed over the weekend. Men, women, and children were trying to cross the border from Mexico to the United States, and no matter the controversy of immigration today, I do not believe that weaponizing tear gas against children who were with their families is ever the answer.

This comes down to basic ethics for me. When we are young, we are taught what is right and wrong by our families, our school systems, and governments. No one ever told me that using tear gas against people was ever a good thing, which is what she is insinuating. It is sickening to realize that people actually think this way. We are all human beings and even if politics are a mess right now in all regards and our nation is divided on many issues, I do not think our nation should ever be divided on whether human beings should celebrate the hurt of others. We are all people, no matter what background, and I think it is important people get perspective and start treating each other as equals instead of creating toxic ideas that tear gassing children is okay.

There is no easy answer to anything in today’s political climate, but something I believe would be beneficial would be to think differently. It is not us versus them, we are all on this planet together. If people open their minds and give others a chance, then this type of hate that Tomi is showing can be eliminated. Everyone in the United States came from somewhere else, which I think is something forgotten from time to time, we are immigrants and showing understanding instead of seeing immigration as a threat in this day and age in globalization can foster a future of helping each other not hurting each other.

As a collegiate woman, I can only hope that in the future my peers will treat issues more delicately and show more respect than making a joke out of a serious situation. I am disgusted by hateful things I see posted by adults on social media every day regarding people and politics and I have to just say, grow up, get some class, and educate yourself. You should be better than this.

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
