5 Indie Fashion Magazines That’ll Make You Put Down Your Copy of Vogue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Since magazines are now moving towards online platforms and print is slowly finding its way out, it gives more room for there to be more competition than just the mainstream fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle flooding our coffee table and stacks on our bedside tables.  Indie magazines are perfect for unique fashion photography and styling inspiration and their Instagram feeds are always lust worthy.  Here are some of the best independent mags found online that’ll have you ordering ASAP.

1. Metal

Metal is a publication that mixes high fashion with a heavy focus on art and creative direction.  It’s targeted more towards the artists, photographers, and stylists in the fashion industry and their purposely unattainable photoshoot concepts are perfect creative inspo to save for later.

2. Vulkan

Industry driven publication Vulkan is a great place to find a mix of fashionable celebrities and submitted work from small name personnel.  This Toronto based media platform sources tons of emerging and established fashion professionals from around the world and has featured faces such as Bazzi and Olivia Holt.

3. PUSS PUSS

According to their website, PUSS PUSS is “inspired by people who go their own way and are not influenced or told by others what to do – just like cats!”  This bi- annual magazine and website combines what everyone loves: celebrities, fashion, and cats, in an assortment of interviews, articles, and fashion shoots.

4. W

Okay, so W mag is still pretty well known for women’s fashion and celebrity news, but it’s still notable to add to this list because it focuses on the more artistic side of the industry and is not usually everyone’s go to.  The magazine itself focuses on aesthetically pleasing layouts and images to create a cohesive image, while still appealing to the fashion side of it all. Not to mention, their Instagram feed is to die for!

5. Sunday Girl

Sunday Girl is perfect for any #GirlBosses out there who want a magazine that focuses on female empowerment, fashion, music, and culture.  This biannual publication states to “champion feminism and equality and deliver a magazine for intellectual, ambitious and creative women.”

With a new wave of ways for us to view fashion mags, up and coming indie magazines show a different take on supporting small businesses, while keeping up with the same news and subjects we love.
