Picking up a book and sitting down to read is not always possible as a college student. With the loads of homework, readings of textbooks and journals, picking up a book and reading for fun does not sound as appealing. But all book lovers are now in luck: summer is very quickly approaching and reading season is about to start. Sitting by the pool or on the beach, with the sun getting us that perfect tan, is the perfect time to whip out a new book. But one question remains, what book should we read for this perfect weather? Here is a list of some of the best books to read this summer while we get that tan on.

1. Love & Gelato By: Jenna Evans Welch

This book delves into a road trip across Tuscany, while spending a whole summer in Italy. Get ready for a whirlwind of romance, mysteries, and lots of gelato.

2. The Woman in the Window By: A.J. Finn

Anna, the main character in this novel, is an agoraphobic, which is a fear of being in open spaces. So because of this, she never leaves her home. One day she starts spying on her neighbors and notices something very terrifyingly dangerous.  When she reports her no one believes her. Will you take her side, or find the falsities in her story too?

3.  The Silent Patient By: Alex Michaelides

Through the eyes of  psychotherapist Theo Faber, you will follow a mute patient who is in a mental health facility for her killing her husband. She has not spoken since the murder, but through Faber’s observations, the truth will come to light.

4. Notes from My Captivity By: Kathy Hepinstall

Follow 17 year old Adrienne Cahill as she pursues her dream of getting into a great college and become a powerful journalist while living in the middle of nowhere in Siberia. However, problems start arising and tragedy hits when she gets held captive by a family she never knew existed. She must become resourceful and escape.  

5. California Girls By: Susan Mallery

Three sisters, Finola, Zennie, and Ali, are having the worst week of their lives. One found her husband having an affair, another had their wedding called off days before it was going to happen and the third had a terrible breakup. The only cure for their kind of heartbreak, is a girls trip to California. And maybe, some new romances and summer loves will arise along the way.

6.  The Au Pair By: Emma Rous

This book is filled with twists and turns as you follow Seraphine Mayes who is trying to understand the truth of the day her and her twin brother were born. That is the same day her mother threw herself off a cliff and their au pair vanished the scene of the crime suspiciously.

7. The Gown: A Novel of the Royal Wedding By: Jennifer Robson

Robson dives into the history of the women who created Queen Elizabeth’s iconic wedding gown.

8. The Suspect  By: Fiona Barton

Two girls go missing in Thailand while on a trip of a lifetime. However, an extremely intelligent journalist refuses to let this case go old and will do everything in her power to bring these girls back.

9. Paper Ghosts By: Julia Heaberlin

The narrator of this book has vanished, and she seems to know who did it. She lures this man into a ten day road trip, to examine different murder victim sites around Texas. All of these sites were shot by him, to create eerie documentary like photographs. Who is the pathological con man? Is him, or is it really her? Is this man really the prime suspect like she thinks he is, or just a complicated man? You’ll have to read it to find out.

10. Summer of ‘69 By: Elin Hilderbrand

This is the perfect summer historical novel for any perfect beach day. Follow a family vacationing in Nantucket during the 1960’s. This novel pays very close attention to the social culture, and the political atmosphere changing that defined that era. Oh and get excited for the juicy twists and turns.
