On Thursday, September 26th, the students and faculty of Murray State held a climate strike in the quad. Climate strikes like these have been happening all over the world for the past week or so. Murray’s climate strike was one of the thousands fighting for something to be done about our current climate situation.

Who?

Murray State students! This event was organized by current students who feel like a change needs to happen in Murray and all over the world. And people from all over the community came to show their support. Students, professors, members of the community and even children attended this event!

Where?

The Murray State climate strike happened in the quad in order to reach as many students and faculty as possible!

Why?

This is the biggest question of them all. Why was there a climate strike? The goal was to raise awareness of the problem and to show our support for change. The state the Earth is currently in will not support us in our current lifestyles for much longer. We must implement change immediately to survive. By taking the time to stand with our posters or donate to the cause we are supporting our own futures and the futures of generations to come. Because of our carbon emissions, the Earth is warming causing glaciers to melt, ocean levels to rise and new illnesses to break out. This is our future. By striking, we are telling the world that we want to live!

One of the neat parts about strikes is to see the signs that people make to support the cause. In preparation for Murray’s climate strike, my friends and I made some posters of our own. “Don’t be a fossil FOOL!” was one of my favorites that we made! It was also awesome to see the signs other people made! Here is a picture of me and my friend Leah with our signs.

I was so incredibly inspired by the number of people that showed up to support this cause. Even those who didn’t stop saw our posters! It feels great to be standing up for something that is so important. We are changing the world! How cool is that!

Overall the climate strike was awesome! Seeing everyone stand up for what’s right is so inspiring! I can’t wait to see what more change we can bring here on campus and all over the world!
