Friends! It is FINALLY October. That means we have two more months left in the year. How crazy is that?

At the beginning of every month, I like to reflect on things that went well. Small or big. You may have done really well on your exams, got all your homework done on time, or even just had a great week of sleep. Celebrate it and try to bring the tools you used for your accomplishment into the new month!

Secondly, I am a big music person. Since I was little I enjoyed listening to CD’s and cassettes my dad would make. He mostly made ones based of R&B, Hip hop, Afrobeats, and Reggae especially because it reminded him of back home. Now, with Spotify, I make a playlist for literally every occasion…but my most important ones are my monthly playlists. I use my monthly playlist as a way to have moments of mindfulness. They remind me to slow down and take time to enjoy beats or just have my own dance party. They also allow me to get in or out of my feelings. My favorite thing is going back to the previous year’s monthly playlist and listening to music that was put unto that playlist in comparison to the new one. Mostly because boy do they show my mental growth. Also, at the end of the month, I choose a picture from my camera roll that I think best describes the month and set it as the image for the playlist. It ranges from something as basic as a color or a pic with friends or friends on a certain day that brought me happiness.

Lastly, Facebook is also one of my best friends at the beginning of the month (funny now that we are older how much we appreciate Facebook). I look at events in the area and add them to my “interested section” and make sure my alerts are on so I am reminded when they are close. I mostly look for events dance, art, or exercise related.

I hope October is off to great start for you all and you find some of these monthly rituals helpful!

P.S I have actually created a playlist of a few of my Fall favorites so far that you can access through this link.

I am just a pre-med student who has a big passion for all things public health, lover of the sun, and tea!
