Talking Wanderlust | Natal: The Home of Brazilian Sand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

What do you know about the northeast of Brazil? Well, if you are planning a trip and want to enjoy some natural landscape, I’m going to tell you to start By Rio Grande do Norte. This area is mostly known for “Natal”, a city that brings together a lot of different experiences, I’m about to list some of my own, so if you like, start planning your visit.

Dunas

What are the “dunes”? They are mountains completely formed by sand, which are shaped by the wind. But the big surprise is that these “dunes” are surrounded by beaches and lakes, so you might feel like you are in the desert and on the next second, you end up seeing the sea and an immense amount of water.

The real deal about this tour is to do it with a “Buggy” a special car or jeep that allows a great view. Besides, the driver always asks if you want your trip to be more calm, or if you want it with “emotion”. In case you choose the second option, be aware, you should consider the others on the vehicule. My parents didn’t really like it.

Adventures

Not considering the existing path with your “buggy”, there are several adventures around the dunes, where you can do zip line or slide through the sand, and end up landing in lakes or lagoons, with the water completely clean.

I must say that the path to go down is really simple, but to climb your way up it’s hard. Sometimes there are some “improvised” stairs that you can use, but it’s usually sunny, so the sand it’s super hot.

Diving

Important notice: anyone can dive. Of course that are people who want to go really down the ocean, in that case, they need special equipment and a guide. But if you just want to see some fishes and corals around the sea, you can just rent a snorkel and swim around by yourself. I guarantee that you will see what you are looking for, the marine life is easily shown in Natal.

Cajueiro

As I mentioned before, Natal is a very diverse place, in there you can witness one of the biggest trees on the planet, called “cajueiro”. But more than that, you can walk inside it. The Cajueiro is tree that gives the fruit “Caju”, very common on the northern part of the country. On the region, it is a symbol of respect through nature.

Craftwork

If there is something that is spread around the city, this thing is craftwork. Natal has several places and stores selling authentic craftwork. This region is one of the bests to buy things for your house and decorations. In addition to this, the establishments holding the art works are by it selfs art works, cheek out the pictures.
