When the temperatures start dropping and snow starts to fall, we all know what is here! I’m not talking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Hanukkah. I’m talking about the winter long celebration dubbed “Cuffing Season”.
Urban Dictionary defines cuffing season as, “During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”
College campuses are basically the football stadiums of cuffing. A giant pool of people, cold dorms, alcohol, and lots of time to kill. So here’s a GIF timeline of cuffing season in college! Snuggle up with your winter boo and take a look at what the next couple of months might be like!
Scouting: August 25th-September 25th
Everyone is back on campus. Old and new faces, all excited to be at college. This is the time when everyone is meeting everyone, getting to know as many people as possible.
Tryouts: September 26th-November 19th
The search is being narrowed down. You’ve got your eye on a couple people and you’re working to get to know them better. Temperatures are dropping and the holidays are coming up, meaning the endless questions from relatives about if you have an S.O are also coming. Decisions are being made folks, temps are dropping but the competition is heating up.
Cuffed: November 20th-January 16th
Just in time for Thanksgiving break, tryouts finish up and people are CUFFED. This helps to deflect those holiday questions. Aunt Sally doesn’t know about cuffing season so according to her, hell yeah you have an S.O and they are a great person! The snow is officially piling up but its cool ‘cause you have a boo to snuggle up with!
Playoffs: January 16th-February 13th
After winter break things take a new turn. You’ve been cuffed for a little while now, could this be the relationship to make it out of cuffing season into, dare I say it, spring?? After-party hook-ups might be turning into weekday movie sesh’s, or not honestly. Only time will tell.
Championship Game: February 14th
The big day. Like the NBA draft but with flowers. Sadly, this is the end of the road for many cuffing season couples, but for some this is just the beginning! Happy Valentine’s Day or better known as the Cuffing Season Championship Game Day!
