It’s Thanksgiving! A time to give thanks, spend time with your loved ones, and of course, eat some good food. But after watching the parade, yelling at the TV during the football game, and having your fifth plate of food, what else is there to do? Well, one great solution is playing a game. Here is a list of five games that you can play during Thanksgiving.

Monopoly
There’s nothing like a great game of Monopoly to rouse some friendly competition. It’s a game that everyone can play and is fun for the whole family. The best part about Monopoly is that there are many different versions. One version uses credit cards and an electronic bank instead of paper money, which could be a great way to explain the wonders of technology to your elders. Not only is Monopoly fun, but it’s also educational! Everyone can learn the fundamentals of real estate and money-managing, be strategic in their purchases, and make deals with other players. Plus the game keeps going until all but one becomes bankrupt. The only thing about Monopoly is that this game is known to cause yelling and possible game board flipping so please play responsibly!

Spades
Spades. Now, this is a serious game for serious people. If you’re still at the kiddie table for Thanksgiving, then this game is not for you. Otherwise, as long as you know the basic rules you’re good to go. I’m not going to sit here and explain the rules to you, but you should already know that you have to have a partner (a really good one, too). Now my family plays with the following as our trump cards: big joker, little joker, the deuce of spades, and then Ace of spades. Before you start yelling at me, remember, every family is different. Some bet money, some don’t. As long as you have fun everything else will fall into place.

Black Card Revoked
This game is exactly what it says. The goal of the game is to not get your black revoked. Each player starts with ten points (black cards). Distribute the response cards to all players. Everyone has 4 answer cards marked A, B, C, and D. Each participant takes a turn hosting and reading the question game cards. One is Majority Rules and the other is Correct Answer. Then the game host reads the cards out loud and announces if the card is correct answer or majority wins. After the question is read, the participants have 6-10 seconds to answer. When the time is up, the game host will give directions to flip their cards revealing their answer choices. So if the card is Correct Answer and you chose right, then you keep you’re ten points. If not, then you lose a point, The same goes for Majority Wins. If the majority of the group chose “A” but you put “B,” then you lose a point. The person who has the most points left wins! I love this game because it’s fun and it allows you to understand everyone’s opinion. For example, not everyone thinks that grits should have salt or pepper, but in reality, some think it should have butter or even sugar. What’s more important is that we all a little bit more about each other.
