I absolutely love the holidays, and other than being able to spend time with my friends and family, my favorite part is the food! I love coming home from college and eating delicious homecooked foods. Everyone is different and they have their own preferences, but here are my favorite types of food to eat during Thanksgiving due to experiences over the years.

Mashed Potatoes

I love anything that is potato. French fries, baked potatoes, hash browns, cheesy potatoes, potato soup, and yes, mashed potatoes. I have even eaten dishes called potato logs and potato balls. Whenever there is a Thanksgiving dinner taking place, the dish I am mostly looking forward to is the creamy and delicious potatoes. I like them lightly seasoned with garlic and I am happy as ever.

Turkey

My second favorite is the main dish of the entire meal! A nice cooked turkey really does go perfectly with the mashed potatoes. I am a meat lover, so I enjoy several different types of meat whether it be beef, chicken, or ham. Turkey is the signature dish for Thanksgiving and it is definitely well-liked by me! Some people prefer either white or dark meat and while I do like both, I prefer the dark meat. It is also nice when there are leftovers, as I use the turkey to make sandwiches. My grammy even uses it to make turkey noodle soup which is to die for.

Green Bean Casserole

Every year when Thanksgiving comes around, I always look forward to having green bean casserole. I have tried it from a few different places and have tried it from different cooks, but my favorite will always be my mother’s. I am not really sure what she does to make it taste so good, but she definitely has my vote for the best. When I was young I always was in the kitchen as she was making it, and would sneak the fried onions to eat as she was cooking.

Stuffing

I remember that when I was younger I did not care for stuffing. When it was dished out I never got any since I never really liked it. I do not remember exactly when, but I tried it again when I was older. I liked it so much that it scored a place on my list of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes. Homemade stuffing tastes amazing mixed in with the mashed potatoes, turkey, and gravy on top.

Cranberry Sauce

I have met some people who really like cranberry sauce, but I have also met some who want nothing to do with it. It really is based on taste. I love fruit, cranberries, and cranberry juice, so it really is not surprising that I have cranberry sauce on my list. It is on my list of favorites since it is so unique to the holiday season and it complements the other dishes very well.

Everyone is different in their favorites and preferences in food, but I am speaking from experience that everyone has at least one dish they love from a Thanksgiving meal. Thanksgiving is a day to sit around and have a nice meal with friends and family, as well as have fun in the kitchen cooking beforehand and all being slumped on the couch afterward. It is also a day where individuals can remember all they are thankful for, including all of the people they share the day with. Happy Holidays! What are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes?
