Christmas Gifts that Give Back

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Alberta chapter.

Christmas is the season of giving and we all enjoy giving our family and friends the perfect presents. As great as it is to make sure the people on our gift lists get something they want, it’s also important to think about the impact of your purchase. Sometimes we focus too much on everything that is bright and shiny and forget about where our products are coming from and who/what they are impacting. So, add more meaning behind your gifts this year by shopping with purpose! There are tons of companies with amazing products that give back to make a positive difference in the world. From animal adoption to planting trees to supporting human trafficking survivors, I’ve compiled a small list of places to shop from this year. Not only will these gifts add meaning, but they can help encourage those around you to keep supporting these organizations

Give girls an education by shopping from Bloom and Give

Every girl deserves an education. When a girl is given the opportunity for education, she lives a healthier life and makes not only her community stronger, but the world. Bloom & Give works tirelessly to provide girls in rural India access to education while committing to fair trade. They provide programs to re-integrate girls who have been forced out of school because of child marriage and household labour. Beyond that, they provide infrastructure as many schools lack the basic amenities that we take for granted – books, classrooms, bathrooms. Help these girls by shopping from scarves, bags, blankets, and more!
