Instagram is changing, as the platform is beginning to give rise to a new breed of influencer. Here are women ready to swap out outfit pictures for real relationship advice, or skinny tea brand deals for female empowerment slogans. On this fast-developing side of Instagram, female activists are gaining thousands of followers as they offer real and reliable sex and relationship advice. Below are four such activists who can offer you a substantially more positive and educational Instagram experience. From the daft to the serious, these are women who will remind you on a daily basis of your self-worth and the power that comes with being single. The perfect remedy for any potential Valentine’s Day blues.

Florence Given: @florencegiven

Florence Given is just twenty years old, yet she was Cosmopolitan’s Influencer of the Year in 2019 and recently fronted Tinder’s 2020 #singlenotsorry advertising campaign. Florence’s success is as a result of her unique combination of eye-catching art and strong feminist rhetoric. The British Illustrator posts her bold and unapologetic designs on her Instagram page, where her 290,000 followers can enjoy slogans such as ‘Off For a Shag’, ‘Stop Raising Him He’s Not Your Son’, and most famously of all – ‘Dump Him’. Inspired by the end of her own toxic relationship, Florence hopes to remind other women of their own self-worth and single potential through her art. Not only does her content guarantee to brighten up your Instagram feed, but Florence’s campaigning on issues such as body positivity, female empowerment and unhealthy relationships marks her out as a new kind of Instagram Influencer. As she told The Independent herself, Florence aims to encourage women ‘to find their power and realise that they should never settle for less than they deserve.’ With a debut book on the way, entitled Women Don’t Owe You Pretty, this seems to be just the beginning for Florence Given.

Chidera Eggerue: @theslumflower

Chidera Eggerue, known on Instagram as The Slumflower, is perhaps most famous for her saggy boobs. Sick of seeing a lack of body diversity online, The Slumflower decided to spearhead her own Instagram campaign in 2017 with #saggyboobsmatter. The hashtag went viral and The Slumflower found herself at the centre of Instagram’s own body positivity movement. Since then The Slumflower’s page has gone from strength to strength as the Instagram star advocates a message of female independence. The Slumflower encourages her 256,000 followers to enjoy and embrace being single and her book, What a Time to be Alone, serves as a guide as ‘to why you are already enough.’ This influencer believes that now, more than ever, is the best time to be alone. Her unshakeable faith in the power that comes with being single will leave you feeling comfortable in your own skin and confident in yourself.

Amalie Have: @scandinaviandreamgxrl

This Danish activist is fearlessly sex and body positive as she appears determined to fight the cause for women across the globe. Amalie Have has been an activist since 2014, when she decided to speak out about the terrible ordeal of her rape in the same year. On her page, Amalie talks about her healing process, offers advice to women in similar situations and draws attention to the gender inequalities that exist in her home country of Denmark. Amalie is a keen advocate for trans rights and is another one of the platform’s leading figures for the body positivity movement. What is perhaps most noticeable about Amalie’s page is her extreme openness with her followers about all manner of issues. Her frank honesty is perhaps what is most needed in this era of information, influencers and fake news. This is a woman not afraid to share the highs and the lows, all whilst continuously encouraging her followers to educate themselves about sex, consent and relationships.
