Why Libby is the Best App for Readers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cornell chapter.

Libby is an app created by Overdrive that allows readers to read or listen to books wherever they are all with a couple of taps on a mobile device. This app is super convenient, and here’s why!

1) Anyone with a library card can download it

The app just requires you to input your library card information. If you don’t have one, signing up for a library card requires a few minutes of your time and going to your local library.

2) You can use it anywhere and across devices

It is a mobile app and the books are downloadable, so you don’t have to be connected to the internet to use them. I use the app on my iPhone or my iPad depending on if I’m on the go or reading at home. The pages you’re reading sync so it’s easy to pick up where you left off on one device. The only downside to this is that the books you tag (to read, ones you liked or disliked etc) don’t transfer across devices, which can be annoying if you’re trying to remember a book you wanted to read.

3) It’s interactive

You can highlight words with different colors, bookmark pages, and write notes to accompany your highlights. The app keeps them in a tab for the book you’re reading, so it’s easy to pull up. Also pressing on a word lets you read a definition (from the app) or look it up on Google.

4) So many options!

Whether you’re into audiobooks or ebooks, romance or science fiction, there’s access to a large assortment of books! If you can’t find the book you’re looking for, you can go on Overdrive and request that your library buy a copy.

5) It’s Free!!!

I’ve already read over 30 books on Libby this year- you can imagine how much that would add up if I bought each one! This is the best option for the frugal reader who tears through books quickly.
