Indoor plants are gaining a lot of popularity as of late, and for good reason! House plants are known to boost your mood, provide beautiful scenery by bringing nature into your living space, and even clean the air you breathe. If you are looking to get started on your plant mom journey, or have tried and failed before, these are some of the best plants for you to start with!
- ZZ Plant

ZZ plants, or Zamioculcas zamiifolia, are almost indestructible. They can be kept indoors or outdoors, in indirect or direct light, and thrive on being forgotten. They should be watered once every two weeks or less and are far more likely to be killed by overwatering than anything else, so pick a place for it and forget it.

Tillandisa plants, or air plants as they are more commonly known, are amazingly low maintenance. They do not even require a pot or soil! Just find a place that receives some form of sunlight, place it there, and mist it once a week. If it starts to look particularly thirsty, soak it in tap water for five minutes and set it back out to dry and it should be back to normal in no time.

Jade plants are gorgeous and are known for their long lifespans. Jade plants hate being left in wet soil, so they prefer to be watered once every three weeks. These plants can also be left indoors or outdoors and prefer to not be in direct sunlight all day, so give them some shade. If cared for properly they can produce beautiful flowers!

Cacti are the perfect plants for a beginner to houseplants! They do their best on a sunny windowsill and enjoy very infrequent watering. They come in many varieties and are very easily purchasable at any garden center or even some grocery stores at a fairly cheap price.

Spider plants are perfect for someone with a lot of friends as they produce a ton of new baby plants when cared for correctly, which can make great gifts! They only need to be left by a window, in a pot with good drainage, and watered once a month to begin producing. Once they do, all you have to do is snip off the baby plants and replant them!
- Haworthia

Haworthia succulents are some of my personal favorites. They require as little care as being watered once a month and being repotted when their root systems grow too large. They do well in almost all sunlight levels and can be left indoors or outdoors. They come in many varieties and grow pretty quickly in my experience which makes them fun to come home to.
Overall, whichever houseplant you decide on will catapult you into the fun life of plant parenthood. Don’t worry too much because even if you manage to kill it, there is probably a fake one out there a lot like it.
