How My View of Justin Bieber Changed with His Newest Album Changes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

All right, someone has got to say it. I am completely and utterly shocked by how much I love Justin Bieber’s new album, Changes. I don’t know about you, but in more recent years I have felt like every time one of his “catchy” songs came on the radio or Pandora or even my own music playlist, I was quick and happy to skip it. In more current years I just felt like I have heard the same songs over and over and with very little discerning differences. Although I have still remained a fan, I was definitely ready for a change (no pun intended). Justin seemed to make sure to make note about the huge changes in his style of music in this most recent album. Even though I still hear bits and pieces of his old self, Justin claims his inspiration to be almost purely his new wife Haley Baldwin as well as his re-found connection with God. Regardless of his listeners beliefs, he wears his religion with quiet pride and I think most of us can agree that his new album also comes with a sense of peace.

My personal favorite, E.T.A., Reminds me of exactly what love should be like. I don’t take this song as anything but someone waiting for their lover to head their way, and they just can’t wait to see them.  Another favorite, Take It Out On Me, represents a more true version of what love should be like. Being able to charge someone’s battery when they feel like they have no energy left, being there when the worst of days come, I’m in love! And lastly, a more popular song on Changes is, You Get me, which Justin shares with his Pandora listeners that this song is almost strictly about his wife, Hailey. He shares his old anxieties about never finding true love and then finding it truly when he gets married. This album feels inherently very raw and exposing, I almost feel as though I’m hearing Justin’s thoughts directly through his music. It seems as though Justin has taken his music to a much more personal level, and we’re here for it.

After our tween stage where Justin’s hair flip stole our hearts, to his bad boy stage, the tattoos, the drama, we grew with him at the same time. I think this album hit me especially hard because this is the light at the end of the tunnel. He had his rough stage and he’s ready to finally maybe grow up a little bit, and through that, he found himself again. I think that’s what we all go through and that’s what makes this album so relatable and so much fun to listen to. I’m listening, you’ve got my attention, Justin.
