Struggling to Find Motivation?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

As we approach the midpoint of the second semester, the pressure of midterms, assignments, projects and jobs can start to eat at you. However, it is important to not let these things drag you down. I look at my own personal lack of motivation, something I know I struggle with sometimes. Sometimes your bed is just too comfy to get up from, and the walk to class seems too daunting.

Sometimes, binging a show on Netflix in your spare time seems much more appealing than going to the gym. However, these tips might help you get out of your rut and spark some motivation within you! Because, at the end of the day, doing these things will make you feel like a better version of yourself!

Get a planner

If you don’t already use one, a planner is a great way to keep yourself organized. You write everything you have to do that day into your planner, and you’ll feel super accomplished when you check them off!

Have a routine

This can go with the planner, but if you write out what you have to do every day, it can help you visualize when you’ll have time to do homework, or go to the gym, or even when you have time for self-care. The more concrete this routine is, the more likely you’ll stick to it.

Get a good night’s sleep

It is recommended that you get at least 6-8 hours of sleep nightly. A lack of sleep or too much sleep can affect your mood, and it can make you less likely to push yourself to do things.

Treat yourself

Something I find that works is a little incentive. For example, I often walk to a coffee shop and try to get work done there. I’ll then set a goal for work that I want to accomplish while I’m there, and if I finish what I need to do, then I buy myself the coffee.

Try to do work outside of your room

: Try to separate where you do work from where you relax. If you know that you often procrastinate, then being in the comfort of your own room might not help you feel motivated to do work. Try going to a study room, or the library, or anywhere that you’ll be less likely to lose focus.

Set aside leisure time

Make sure that you’re not all about work, because friendships and self-care time are also very important. This is time for you to unwind, so cast aside any other worries and be present. Enjoy this time!
