Since we are now on our own during college, “adulting” can be hard sometimes. Making meals for ourselves that are more than just Ramen Noodles or some pizza rolls are not easy on a budget. Are we supposed to separate our clothes by color for laundry or is that an old wives’ tale? And how the hell am I supposed to clean a whole apartment? Well I’m not much help for the first two problems but I can help with the third, thanks to my neat freak father who engrained these habits in me.

First, start with the basics. Buy some glass cleaner, paper towels, microfiber towels, toilet bowl cleaner, toilet bowl brush, and some grime fighter. An amazing site where you can find most of these items for an amazing price is called Grove.co. And one of our members, Molly Gruszynski, has a referral code to get a free gift with your purchase! I would also recommend having a vacuum if you don’t already have one, but there are some decently priced vacuums at Walmart.

Once you have all the supplies, focus on a small area at a time. I start by wiping down all the visible surfaces with either a paper towel or a microfiber towel with some glass cleaner. This can be done anywhere that gets dirty, from your kitchen or bathroom countertops to your tv stand. Then I use the grime fighter with another microfiber towel around any areas where grim can build up, mainly sinks and showers. I try to do this twice a month and then vacuum once a month.

Extra Tips: As my dad always said, “Paige you have to think like dust, where would you sit?” It was a running joke that we had, but it actually holds some weight. Look for areas where there isn’t a lot of movement, and that’s where dust will sit. For example, your countertops might not be bad, but the tops of your cabinets are another story. Also make sure you throw your microfiber towels in the wash when you’re done cleaning that way you can create less waste.

I hope this gave you some new ideas to think about the next time you work up the courage to clean. Good luck!
