Due to the covid-19 pandemic, many universities are switching from face-to-face classes in favor of online instruction. This can be a difficult adjustment, especially for students who are not used to or have never had a class online before. However, it is not as scary as it seems, especially when you  follow a few tips and tricks and find out what works best for you.

Don’t do work in bed.

This has become a little harder since people are encouraged to stay inside and only leave their homes for essentials, but it’s still possible. Getting into bed gives your mind and body the idea that it’s time to rest, not a time to do homework. Try to go to a different room or sit at a desk to get your schoolwork done, and save your bed for sleeping.

Make a schedule and stick to it.

Planning out your online schedule is a perfect way to make sure you don’t fall behind on your classes. Work ahead if needed, but as long as you stick to the schedule you lay out for yourself for each class and follow it, you won’t fall behind.

Take breaks.

There’s no need to fit a whole semester’s worth of work into a smaller period of time. Just like you would for regularly scheduled classes, take a break in between each subject, even if it’s only ten minutes. Get a snack, stretch, take a walk. Anything that will give you a much needed breather.

Email professors with questions.

It can be intimidating to have a class online where you’re not in front of the professor. But just because you don’t see them everyday. In these trying times Professors are still here for you, and all your questions.. Don’t be afraid to shoot an email to your professor if you don’t understand an assignment or have any questions regarding the course. They are there to help.

Take things one day at a time.

Don’t become overwhelmed thinking about all of the assignments of the semester. Focus on the schedule you lay out for yourself and look at what needs to be done for today. Everyone is in the same situation of suddenly having to  change how school work needs to get done. Stay focused on what needs to happen now and don’t worry about things that are out of your control. You’ll get through this.
