3 Book Series to Binge-Read During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

For a lot of us, living in a state of quarantine has left many people wondering how to fill the time. For me, my go-to is always curling up in a comfy spot with a good book. Here are three of my favorite book series to read when I know I’m going to have a lot of time on my hands.

1 & 2) Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses Series

  • While I know that these are two seperate book series, they technically exist in the same “universe,” so I like to put them together. The first book, Throne of Glass, is about Celaena Sardothien, an assassin serving a life sentence for getting caught while doing her line of work, you know, assassinating people. Celaena is offered the chance of freedom; the only catch? She has to win a brutal tournament competing against 23 other highly trained mercenaries, soldiers, and assassins, who are all vying to be named the King’s champion. There are 8 books in the series, with 7 main storyline books and 1 prequel companion. The A Court of Thorns and Roses Series is a rough retelling of the classic story of Beauty and the Beast. The first book is about Feyre, a human girl who is forced to hunt to keep her and her family alive. Her life is turned upside down when she is dragged to the faerie world after killing a wolf, who was actually a faerie in disguise. There are currently 4 books in the series, with more in the works.

       3) Patrick Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicle

  • Yes there are only two books in this series right now, The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear, but each of them are the size of 2 if not 3 “normal” sized books. The first book, The Name of the Wind, tells the story of Kvothe, a young musician who navigates his way to the legendary University, a place where one can truly learn everything, including how to call the wind… The third book in this series is in the works, but just as Game of Thrones fans have to wait in anticipation for the release date of the next book, so too do fans of The Kingkiller Chronicles, as the release date of book 3 has yet to be set.
