Whether it’s moving in to a new town, moving into a new dorm, new apartment or new house, you will always have neighbors. The sooner you get to know them, the sooner you will see why having neighbors is so beneficial.

Here are my twelve reasons for getting to know your neighbors better.

They’ll Watch Your House When You Go Away

If you have a family vacation or a business trip and are wanting someone to keep an eye on your place while you’re away, they got you. Having a neighbor house-sit is far cheaper than hiring an actual house sitter.

A Helping Hand When Lifting Something Heavy

Need help unloading your new couch? Or refrigerator? An extra hand in this situation is much needed and super helpful.

It Makes Your Neighborhood Safer

Getting to know the ones around you and in your neighborhood makes for less crimes and more people looking out for one another. It is especially useful during emergencies.

They’ll Lend A Tool or Academic Help

Struggling to help the kids with homework? Or need a tool for a certain project you’re working on? Don’t be afraid to ask around to see who is willing to help. Getting to know the jobs of your neighbors will help during this time because you may have a math tutor living next to you who you can call for help.

They’ll Be There For You

Feeling lonely? Need advice? Invite one of your neighbors, and they’ll be there for you.

So You Don’t Have To Go To The Store For A Slice Of Cheese

Obviously if you’re making some grilled cheese and realize all you are missing is just one slice of cheese, why make a trip to the store when you can just ask your neighbors if they happen to have any?

They’ll Host Gatherings/ Game Night

Want to have a crawfish boil, but don’t know who all to invite? Invite your neighbors over to socialize, eat good food, listen to music and to have a nice time enjoying eachothers’ company.

They’ll Keep You Up To Date

Whether it’s a new rule for the neighborhood or lost dog, being in contact and up to date with one another will make you are aware and stay up to date with everything going on.

They’ll Bring You Food During Hard Times

Whether you lost your job or have a death in the family, they will make sure to bring over some homecooked meals for you and your family.

They’ll Pet Sit For You

Don’t wanna pay for boarding your pet? Yeah, me neither. It can get too pricey, especially if you will be out of the house for more than a few days. Having a neighbor pet sit is much more convenient.

They’ll Carpool With You to Places

Maybe not to work, but maybe to the gym or walking trails.

They’ll Workout/ Quarantine With You

Friendly neighbors, like the ones I have will invite you to the cul de sac to do a neighborhood jazzercise exercise while social distancing. They make quarantine not so bad during this tough time for many.

These are just a few of the many reasons you should get to know your neighbors better. I encourage you to meet those around you and really get to know them. They may be beneficial to you in many ways.
