5 Podcasts That Will Keep You Sane During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Bored at home with nothing to do? Give your eyes a break from the blue light on your laptops and phones, and relax or laugh while listening to one of these five podcasts. Whether you want something funny, informative, soul-soothing or soul-spooking, there is one for every one of your quarantine moods. Feel free to workout, sunbathe, do your laundry, cook or just sit and relax as you listen to any of these podcasts:

Armchair Expert

Best for: those who enjoy crude yet interesting humor and like listening to celebrities talk without filter. This podcast is hosted by Dax Shepard. In this podcast, he talks to celebrities about their careers, dealing with paparazzi, their lives outside of fame and their personal stories that you will not be able to find online. Some well-known celebrities that have spoken on his podcast include Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen DeGeneres, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Also, fair warning that this podcast does include a good handful of f-bombs!

Crime Junkie

Best for: those who love crime shows and want to hear about real-life cases that will leave you spooked. This podcast is obviously completely virtual, but it makes you feel like you are actually watching everything take place – from the moments before someone is abducted or murdered to when the suspect is being investigated. I cannot listen to this podcast at night because it makes me want to stay under my covers and never go outside again (perfect for quarantine).

Modern Love

Best for: those who want to listen to stories of love, new beginnings and heartbreak with a good mix of excitement, sadness and humor. I have been an avid listener of this podcast for a while now. This podcast essentially consists of love stories that have been submitted to the New York Times and are then read aloud by celebrities. Most of the episodes are 20 to 30 minutes long, so it is perfect for when you are looking for a short and sweet getaway from Zoom lectures and assignments.

The Life Coach School Podcast

Best for: those who want a good dose of practical self-improvement and self-love lessons. This podcast is perfect for those who aim to use this time of solitude to improve themselves and come out of the quarantine as people with higher self-esteem and self-awareness. Take this time to really learn more about yourself and what you really want out of your life.

Unlocking Us

Best for: those who love Brené Brown and want to listen to a podcast that is rich with talk of self-improvement and self-empowerment. This one is fairly new, but I am so glad that I discovered this podcast. Brené has such a calm voice and nice personality that she makes you feel like you guys are somehow good friends. As this podcast was started around the time the lockdown for the pandemic began, she also talks about how to stay calm and focused during this confusing and uncertain time. I would also recommend checking out her TED Talk on vulnerability.

We are most likely going to be stuck in quarantine for a few weeks longer. My advice would be to give your eyes a break and peel them away from your phones and laptops whenever you can. There is a huge variety of content available through podcasts, so plug in your earphones and listen well – you may learn something valuable!
