Have you run out of TV shows to binge during your quarantine? Look no further. Meet the show that has been all the buzz as of late. Outer Banks is the binge-able series you never knew you needed. The show takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina (if that wasn’t already apparent). Four teens; John B, JJ, Kiara, and Pope are on a mission to tie loose ends that John B’s dad left behind after getting lost at sea a year prior. A shipwreck, treasure, and murder wash up on the shores of these kid’s lives, and chaos ensues. If you’re not enticed already, here are 5 reasons why you should queue up this show’s pilot yesterday.
1. It’s Not Your Typical Teen Show
You might love Riverdale, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, etc. etc., but this is not your little sister’s TV show. The acting is elevated, the casting is pretty on par, and the storyline is far fetched but not so much so that it’s not believable.
2. The Scenery is S t u n n i n g
While the show takes place in the Outer Banks, it is filmed in gorgeous Charleston North Carolina, which is filled with marshes, beaches, adorable homes, sick boats, and even a stellar country club makes a cameo or two.
3. The West-side-story-ness.
There are two “sides” of the island in this show; The Cut, where “pogues” or “low-lives” of the island life, and “Figure 8”, the wealthy side of the island where “the kooks” live, aka your Chads and Becky’s of OBX. This rivalry (no spoiler) becomes a huge layer to the plot.
4. The Soundtrack
The island vibes allow for some pretty cool reggae undertones to flow though the soundwaves of John B’s super cool VW van. The music adds to the overall nautical vibe of the show, which is just as fun to drink up as a pina colada on a beach just like one in OBX.
5. I saved the most important point for last. The characters!
The main characters are like a bag of Chex Mix. You get the best, Breakfast-Club style squad that you’ve been missing since Friends aired on Netflix. John B, the heroic adventurer, JJ, the hilarious bad-boy best friend, Kiara, the laid-back surfer girl “mom” of the group, and Pope, the wicked smart, hesitant accomplice to all crimes JJ and John B drum up. Not to mention, did you get a good look at our lovely main character John B? Yeah, you’re welcome for your new fav show, and character.
