Who Says You Can’t Dress Up This Year? Here’s 6 Easy Costume Ideas for Your Socially Distant Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Halloween is certainly going to look different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress up! Whether you are staying in to binge all the Halloween Town movies or having a socially distant gathering with friends, here are a couple of easy costume ideas to get into the Halloween spirit!

Folklore Era Taylor Swift

If Folklore wasn’t your summer album this year, did you really experience it to the fullest? If you’re still obsessed with it like I am, you should dress up as queen Taylor herself! Grab an oversized cardigan or sweater and put your hair up. Once you’re all dressed up, you’ll be ready to sing about Betty, James, Inez, and Rebekah all Halloween night.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

With the passing of RBG last month, there are three ways to honor her legacy; vote (seriously register ASAP if you aren’t already), use your voice to advocate for causes she fought for, and dress up as her for Halloween. Wear an all-black dress or graduation gown, add some white lace to the neckline, put a crown on or hold a gavel for good measure, and you’re the Notorious RBG! Now you’re ready to take on the world this Halloween!

A Deer

I’ve been a deer before for Halloween and I think it’s one of my favorite costumes I’ve ever done! All you need to wear is different shades of brown and DIY a headband with felt for the ears and fake flowers for a dainty touch. You could stop there, but if you like doing makeup I think that it definitely takes the costume to the next level! If you attend your Halloween plans in this look, you’re sure to have people saying oh deer!

Fall

Are you obsessed with pumpkin spice? Do you love autumn foliage? Well if you love fall so much, you might as well be fall for Halloween! This is a super easy costume to pull off. Just wear anything in your closet that’s orange, cranberry, red, or gold, add some fake leaves, and there you go! You’re ready to bring the autumnal spirit to any Halloween event!

A Burrito

It’s been said that you are what you eat. So if you’re getting Chipotle every week, maybe you should follow suit and be a burrito. All you need is a silver bottom, tan top, and some green tule for guac. Then you’ll be freshly made and ready for a night out!

The Rose’s (Schitts Creek)

Calling all bebes! If you’ve seen the Pop TV hit Schitt’s Creek, you know how amazing of a show it is. Therefore, there’s no better family to dress up as then the Rose’s! You could either make this a group costume or pick your favorite character from the show. Bob is totally underrated in my opinion. Whether you want to be fashionable like Moira, ew like David, or a little bit Alexis, you’ll certainly be able to find something in your closet to become one of these iconic characters!

I hope this gave you ideas of what to dress up as this Halloween! Stay safe and spooky!
