Why Spicy Foods are the Best Foods

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Most of my food has banana peppers, hot sauce, or chili flakes on it.  If my meal doesn’t have hot sauce, chili flakes, or banana peppers I’m thinking about adding them on my food….I’ll admit it. I might have a problem. But ever since I was a little girl I’ve been adding spice to my food to the disgust or amazement of everyone around me. But I honestly believe that a spicy life is the best life. Here’s why.

You Don’t have to Share Food

Whenever someone asks me, “Can I have a bite?” I always say yes but to be careful because my food is always spicy. Looking at their face scrunch up in disgust is an (albeit guilty) victory for me.

Adding Hot Sauce to Food makes it Immediately Better

There’s always that awful moment when you are given food and you realize that you don’t like it. I hate wasting food and I more than likely will eat whatever I’m given. This task is a lot easier after a few shots of Tabasco sauce. Hot sauce masks even the worst tastes and I’m forever grateful for it.

Hot Sauce is Super Portable.

I have hot sauce in my bag, swag!

Nothing on the Menu is Off-limits

I remember one time I was eating at an Indian restaurant and the nice lady at the counter told me that my order was going to be spicy. I told her that I loved spicy foods and she smiled and said, “There’s a difference between American spicy and Indian spicy.”. She was totally right. The food was next level spicy but I adored it. In between bites filled with pain I was in heaven.

Spicy Food Lovers are Basically a Cult

I don’t know why. I genuinely don’t. But when two people find out that they love spicy foods they automatically launch into a conversation about different hot sauces. Some of the liveliest conversations I had with people who claim that they could drink hot sauce. And with the portions, they put on their plate? They practically do.
