Being Thankful in 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!

As we go into this unusual holiday season, it is completely expected that we may not be feeling as jolly as we typically do. With COVID restrictions in place, your Thanksgiving dinner table may be feeling a little empty this year. Still, I challenge you to find at least one thing to be thankful for.

This year has been crazy and draining, and it may feel like there’s not a whole lot to be thankful for. I’m certainly not saying you should force yourself to be thankful for the sh*tshow that 2020 has been, but what’s one little thing that’s brought you joy? Focus on that this year. Even the smallest things can bring up our spirits sometimes.

Maybe being in isolation gave you time to get to know yourself better. Maybe you found yourself going for quarantine walks, and seeing beauty in little things around your neighborhood. Personally, one thing I’m thankful for is online shopping. Something about knowing something is going to be delivered just gets the serotonin flowing.

No matter how big or small your one “thing” is, I hope you can find something to feel thankful for. If nothing else, be thankful for yourself, because you’re doing your best to make it through this year! And that’s enough.
