Finals are always a challenge, and this semester has been different than any other with the pandemic, which has made college even more challenging and stressful. Here are some tips for surviving finals during this difficult time.

1.         Make a To-Do List

Write down everything you have to do and make a plan to do it. When I make a to-do list of everything I have to get done, it helps motivate me more to do it. Instead of avoiding studying or doing the assignments that you know you have to do, make a list of everything you need to do, and plan out days to accomplish each of these tasks. Having a plan makes finals less stressful.

2.         Start studying early

Start studying in advance to avoid feeling stressed and overwhelmed the night before your finals. DON’T SAVE ALL YOUR STUDYING FOR THE NIGHT BEFORE! I know there’s a lot more fun stuff that you could be doing rather than studying, but it’s important to start studying ahead of time to make sure you know all of the material before your exams.

3.         Don’t procrastinate

Don’t save everything you have to do for the last minute! We still have some time before exams start, take advantage of it.

4.         Take care of yourself

Taking care of your mental and physical well-being during this time is super important. Finals are stressful enough as it is, and now we’re also living through a pandemic on top of that. Work hard to finish the semester strong, but also do what is best for you and your wellbeing. Yes, finals are important, but you need to put your wellbeing first.

5.         Make sure you’re getting enough sleep

Your body needs rest! Make sure you’re getting a good night’s sleep so you can conquer the day and check off tasks on your to-do list!

6.         Stay hydrated

Keep yourself healthy and hydrated going into finals! You want to make sure you’re at your best for exams and that you’re hydrated to avoid feeling fatigued.

7.         Fuel your body with healthy foods!

Being mindful of the foods you’re eating and what you’re putting into your body is a great way to stay energized and fueled for finals. I know that when you’re stressed it can be tempting to stress each junk food, but this will only make you feel more tired and less energetic. Be mindful of what you’re eating and eat foods that make you feel good and fueled.

8.         Remember it’s okay to take a break

There’s a difference between procrastinating and taking a break when you need one. Don’t spread yourself too thin! It’s okay to take a break in between assignments. Do what is best for you during this difficult time with both finals and COVID. This is why it’s important to plan out when you’re going to do your assignments and leave time in-between to give yourself a break.

9.         Have confidence in yourself

You’ve worked hard this semester, don’t doubt yourself! This semester has been super challenging for everyone given the circumstances. Be proud of yourself for making it this far and have confidence in yourself and that you’ve worked hard this semester to learn the material in your classes.

Good luck with your finals! I believe in you. You got this. Happy studying :)
