I know it’s only a few days after Thanksgiving, but Netflix’s holiday rom-com series, DASH & LILY, dropped a few weeks ago!
It’s a new Christmas-y rom-com series, based on the book of the same name by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I read the book way back when it first came out, and didn’t realize that it was being turned into a Netflix series until I saw it listed.
I don’t want to give too much away, since I think you should watch it, but here’s a little bit about the show.
It follows Lily, who writes clues in a red notebook that she leaves on the shelf of her favorite bookstore, and Dash, the boy who finds it while browsing the shelves at the same store, and after he picks up the notebook, he decides to play.
This is the beginning of Dash & Lily’s adventure around New York City, a few days before Christmas. They don’t see each other, but they leave personal clues and stories for the other to follow.
The actors that played Dash and Lily, Austin Abrams and Midori Francis respectively, are perfect in these roles. They both capture Dash and Lily’s emotions and personalities so well, that I couldn’t see anyone else in the roles.
This limited series is only eight episodes, so if you’re looking for a quick, fun, and heart-warming show that’s jam-packed with holiday cheer, DASH & LILY is the show for you!
Since the episodes are short, I watched it all over the course of a few days. It would’ve been shorter, probably, had I not been savoring each episode! I could hardly believe it when the show was over. DASH & LILY is one of those shows that I immediately wished that I could watch again for the first time, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched it!
Also, there’s a chance that there could be a season two, since there are a few more books in the Dash & Lily universe.
This is a story that really resonated with me. With the stress of life and school right now this show offered me a moment of escapism to just be completely wrapped in the bliss of seeing a silly romance play out. Treat yourself after finals to a nice cup of hot coco and a mini marathon of this wholesome show.
