It may not come as a surprise that 2020 was the hardest year of my life (so far). For that reason, I took myself, my loved ones and things I love doing for granted. However, it was also the year in which I changed all that around and something I’ll stick to in 2021.

Although I never believed or stuck with New Year’s resolutions, I came up with a few goals I want to fulfill this year. However, I understand that there are things that are beyond our control. So, if I don’t get to all of my 10 goals, I’ll be gentle to myself instead of beating myself up about it.

As a goal-oriented person, I would love to accomplish a lot this year. But I also want to work on being more flexible and understanding when things are not going to happen. We should always be prepared to make changes when needed.

So, here are 5 goals from my list that are very important and will definitely make me feel good through these 12 months.

  1. Writing For One Hour Every Day

Ever since I can remember, writing has always been one of my biggest passions. So, it’s not surprising that I want to publish at least one book in the future. To make that happen, I decided to give myself an hour a day to write whatever is on my mind, even if it’s not book-worthy. Why? Because I know that in no time, I’ll find a story to tell.

I’m putting this goal in action starting in February.

  1. Working Out Consistently

Last year, I got back into working out, which lasted 3 months. After that, I gave up on it again. Fortunately, I have been filling my mornings with yoga and workout routines since the beginning of January. I’m grateful to be taking care of my body and overall health by exercising constantly. I also listen to my body cues by letting myself have one, two, or even three rest days a week.

For yoga, my favorite YouTubers are Yoga With Adrienne and Yoga With Kassandra. For workout routines, I currently follow Lilly Sabri, who has killer full-body and HIIT workouts. They make me look forward to moving, which is something I was missing for a very long time. So thankful to them!

  1. Connecting More With My Friends And Family

Due to moving back to Brazil for quarantine, I got closer to some and more distant to others. For that reason, I relied almost exclusively on my immediate family rather than friends that live far. Not only that, but I also neglected some loved ones because I don’t like texting. I didn’t Facetime people even when I missed them. I just simply shut myself off from the world for many months as that was easier for me to do.

However, I’m ready to break down those walls. This will be different though. I only want to keep and seek meaningful relationships, those that make both parties feel good. What I don’t want is to feel obligated to talk or see someone and to give my all and not get anything in return. I want to trust others, and most of all, I want to feel loved and respected because I know that I deserve it.

  1. Brush Up On My Cooking Skills

I’ve always liked taking care of my body and now, more than ever, I love eating clean. That’s why I started cooking for myself sometimes. Especially, when I’m away in college. So, one of my biggest goals this year is to brush up on my cooking skills. What do I mean by that? Well, I want to be more creative and cook whatever I feel like cooking while getting better at baking and making desserts.

  1. Spend More Time in Nature And With Animals

One big difference between my family and I is that I love nature. Not they don’t, but not on the same level. I love hiking and walking around nature, getting back to my center and getting some fresh air. For example, I’ve always wanted to go camping, but never had the chance to do it. On top of that, I love connecting with nature when I have animals around me. It’s just very rejuvenating and nurturing. So, this year, I want to spend more time around nature.
