Ideas For Celebrating Valentine’s Day With Your Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

My boyfriend and I broke up the first week of college and yes, it absolutely sucked. I was adjusting to a whole new life on campus as well as trying to meet people and make friends. Going through the mess of emotions that come with a breakup made those things really difficult. Sometimes I was sad, sometimes angry, and sometimes I was happy and confident because, “he lost me and I’m a bad b.”

I know this is not the intro you were expecting based on the title of this article, but going through the breakup so early on honestly helped me to make some seriously strong friendships. The girls I had met, just three days prior, knew exactly what to do to make me feel better and did anything to cheer me up- it felt like I had known them forever! We went out to dinner, ate ice cream and popcorn, watched movies, had late night chats about anything and everything, and in that first week we knew more about each other than you can possibly imagine.

Valentine’s Day is a funny holiday. A day to celebrate love and affection between you and your “valentine.” However, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about just one person, take advantage of Galentine’s Day on the 13th and Valentine’s Day on the 14th, and celebrate those girls who are there for you at your best and at your worst; the girls you couldn’t imagine life without, whether it’s been years, a lifetime, or even just a couple weeks. Here are some super simple ideas to celebrate your relationships with and love for your girlfriends.

Brunch

Nothing says “love fest” more than sitting around the table on a Sunday morning, sipping mimosas, eating pancakes, waffles, eggs and fruit salad galore. Plan a cute little brunch with your girls — each offer to bring a different brunch staple, get all dressed up and indulge and some good food and conversation!!

Go Out for a Meal

Whether this is breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or even dessert — treat yourself to a fantastic meal with some equally fantastic company!

Order Takeout

Pick your all time favorite place on GrubHub or Doordash and order all of your favorite meals! Sit around chatting, catching up and GRUBBING! Pair this with one of the fun ideas below for the truly ideal night.

Rom-Com Movie Marathon

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and even prime-time TV will be airing TONS of the best, classic, lovey-dovey, rom-coms. Grab the delicious dinner you ordered in, get cozy in your PJs with pillows and blankets, and gather round the TV.

Host a Paint Night

Buy some canvases, painting paper, paints and paintbrushes and sit around doing some free-painting or following a Youtube paint-along video (Bob Ross is ALWAYS a go-to for me)! Even if you lack artistic ability or creativity, it is still a great way to get some laughs and spend some quality time with your girls!

Game Night

Now THIS paired with takeout is an ultimate win! Pick your favorite board games, card games, Wii games, or video games. You can play with teams or go at it individually and keep the competition in the room raging! This will for sure bring out laughs, screams, and keep the emotion and energy high in the room!

Wine Tasting (21+)

For more of a lowkey night in — a wine tasting is a great idea. Buy a couple bottles of wine, get some cute wine glasses, and sit around pretending to be wine connoisseurs. If you’re feeling even fancier, maybe throw together a charcuterie board!
