As we slowly begin to look toward summertime and the possibility of jobs and internships, it is important to consider the component of an interview. Listed below are three easy steps to help ensure you are fully prepared for anything an interview may throw your way!

Choose an outfit you feel confident in

How you choose to dress really showcases who you are and helps ensure a good first impression. You always want to dress to impress with business professional clothes. Some nice slacks and blouse are always a safe route to go, or even a modest summery dress with some flats is a perfect outfit. Or to make it a little more formal, wear slacks and a blazer with a tucked in shirt or a skirt or dress with a blazer. Be sure to wear comfortable, closed toed shoes. Whatever your personal style may be, as long as you take pride in your appearance, you are set!

Maintain a professional appearance

Although this may seem obvious, your appearance is something to keep in mind when attending any interview. For your hair, I recommend a cute sleeked back ponytail or your hair pulled into a bun. This can help you avoid playing with your hair unknowingly during an interview. As far as your makeup goes, be sure to keep it natural and not to wear anything too distracting. If you wear earrings, stick to small studs and avoid wearing hoop earrings. However, it depends on the job and the company at which you are applying. Above all, make sure to stay true to yourself while showing that you’re serious about the position!

Be sincere

A lot of the time during interviews, the interviewer will tend to ask an overall question about yourself and what it is you enjoy or are passionate about. I think the most important part to this question, and any other questions you may be asked, is to be honest and genuine. Do not be afraid to talk about yourself. For your “elevator pitch” keep it short and address your skills. Say things like “I am right for the job because…” and tell how your skills will help the company in this role. The interviewers want to grasp a sense of who you are and what makes you, you!

Carry confidence and a positive attitude

Confidence is key to everything! They are looking for someone who is right for the job and is confident in themselves that they will be able to perform the job to the best of their ability. It’s important to keep a positive attitude and be respectful to your interviewer. Remember, if you get the job, that person will be your boss or your coworker.

Whether it be for a potential job or club that you’re dying to be a part of, with these four easy steps you are sure to nail your interview! Stay true to you and good luck!
